There is something special about a country picnic.

A checkered blanket stretched across the grass. A basket filled with sandwiches, fresh fruit, chips, and homemade treats. Sunshine filtering through the trees. Maybe a little country music playing nearby while friends and family laugh, talk, and enjoy an afternoon without worrying about everything else happening in life.

Today’s Mocktail of the Day: Country Picnic is inspired by those simple moments.

This refreshing alcohol-free drink combines lemonade, sweet tea, peach nectar, fresh strawberries, and sparkling water to create a beverage that tastes like summer in the countryside.

It is sweet without being overwhelming, fruity without tasting artificial, and refreshing enough for a hot afternoon.

Best of all, there is no alcohol required.

Whether you’re planning an actual picnic, sitting on the porch, hosting a backyard barbecue, or simply looking for something different to drink tonight, the Country Picnic Mocktail is an easy way to bring a little summertime country charm into your glass.

Country Picnic Mocktail

Prep Time: 5 minutes
Servings: 1
Difficulty: Easy
Alcohol: None

Ingredients

  • 3 ounces chilled lemonade
  • 2 ounces chilled sweet tea
  • 1 ½ ounces peach nectar
  • 1 ounce strawberry puree
  • 2 ounces sparkling water or lemon-lime soda
  • 2 fresh strawberries
  • 1 lemon wedge
  • Ice
  • Fresh mint for garnish, optional
  • Peach slice for garnish, optional

How to Make the Country Picnic

Start by slicing your strawberries. Place a few strawberry pieces in the bottom of a tall glass and gently muddle them to release their juice.

Fill the glass with ice.

Pour in the lemonade, sweet tea, peach nectar, and strawberry puree.

Stir everything together until the strawberry and peach flavors are evenly distributed throughout the drink.

Top with sparkling water for a lighter, crisper mocktail. If you prefer something sweeter, use lemon-lime soda instead.

Give the drink one final gentle stir.

Garnish with a fresh strawberry, lemon wedge, peach slice, or sprig of mint.

Serve immediately and enjoy.

What Does a Country Picnic Taste Like?

The first thing you’ll notice is the lemonade.

Its bright citrus flavor gives the drink the refreshing quality you want from something served over plenty of ice.

Then comes the sweet tea.

Tea adds a deeper flavor that keeps the mocktail from tasting like ordinary fruit punch. It also gives the Country Picnic some Southern-inspired character.

The peach nectar brings sweetness and a smooth fruit flavor, while strawberries add freshness and a slightly tart berry finish.

Finally, sparkling water gives everything a little fizz.

The result falls somewhere between strawberry lemonade, peach iced tea, and a sparkling fruit punch.

And that combination is exactly what makes this drink so enjoyable.

Why Sweet Tea Works So Well

Sweet tea might not be the first ingredient you think about when making a mocktail, but it deserves a place behind any alcohol-free home bar.

Tea adds complexity.

Many mocktails rely heavily on juice and soda. They taste good, but sometimes everything becomes overly sweet.

Tea provides another layer without adding more sugar.

For the Country Picnic, black tea works particularly well because its slightly bitter and earthy characteristics balance the sweetness of the peach, strawberry, and lemonade.

You can use homemade sweet tea or your favorite bottled variety.

You can also control the sweetness by using unsweetened iced tea and adding a little honey or simple syrup.

Make Your Own Strawberry Puree

You don’t need to purchase strawberry syrup to make this drink.

Homemade strawberry puree is incredibly simple.

Take several fresh strawberries, remove the stems, and blend them until smooth.

That’s it.

If your strawberries aren’t particularly sweet, add a small amount of honey, sugar, or simple syrup.

For an even smoother mocktail, strain the puree through a fine mesh strainer before adding it to your drink.

Fresh strawberry puree gives the Country Picnic a beautiful natural fruit flavor that bottled strawberry syrups sometimes can’t duplicate.

Frozen strawberries work too.

Allow them to thaw slightly before blending.

Sparkling Water or Lemon-Lime Soda?

Either works.

Your choice depends primarily on how sweet you want your Country Picnic to be.

Sparkling water creates a lighter drink and allows the lemonade, tea, strawberry, and peach flavors to remain the stars.

Lemon-lime soda produces a sweeter and more soda-like mocktail.

You could also try sparkling lemonade, ginger ale, peach sparkling water, or strawberry sparkling water.

There really isn’t one correct choice.

Experiment until you discover the version you enjoy most.

Turn It Into a Country Picnic Punch

If you’re hosting a picnic, barbecue, birthday party, family gathering, or summer celebration, you probably don’t want to make every drink individually.

Fortunately, the Country Picnic can easily become a punch.

For approximately eight servings, combine:

  • 3 cups lemonade
  • 2 cups sweet tea
  • 1 ½ cups peach nectar
  • 1 cup strawberry puree
  • 2 cups sparkling water or lemon-lime soda
  • 1 cup sliced strawberries
  • 1 sliced lemon
  • 1 sliced peach

Combine everything except the sparkling water in a large pitcher or beverage dispenser.

Keep it refrigerated until you’re ready to serve.

Immediately before serving, add the sparkling water or soda.

Add plenty of ice to individual glasses instead of the pitcher whenever possible. That keeps melting ice from watering down the entire batch.

Float strawberries, peaches, and lemon slices throughout the pitcher for a colorful presentation.

Make It Look Like a Picnic in a Glass

Part of the fun of making mocktails is presentation.

You don’t need expensive glassware or professional bartending equipment.

A simple mason jar is actually perfect for the Country Picnic.

Fill it with ice, pour in your mocktail, and garnish the rim with a strawberry and lemon wheel.

Add a striped paper straw if you have one.

For parties, serve the drinks alongside a red-and-white checkered tablecloth, picnic basket, wildflowers, or rustic wooden serving board.

Suddenly you’re not simply serving lemonade and tea.

You’ve created an experience.

Try a Peach Country Picnic

If you’re a big peach fan, make peach the dominant flavor.

Increase the peach nectar to approximately 2½ ounces and reduce the strawberry puree to about half an ounce.

Add several fresh peach slices to the glass.

Peach sparkling water makes an excellent topper for this variation.

Try a Strawberry Country Picnic

Prefer strawberries?

Increase the strawberry puree and reduce the peach nectar.

You can also muddle three or four strawberries directly in the glass before adding the remaining ingredients.

Top everything with strawberry sparkling water or lemon-lime soda.

The result is closer to a sparkling strawberry lemonade with a subtle sweet-tea finish.

Try a Blackberry Country Picnic

Strawberries aren’t your only option.

Blackberries work beautifully with tea and lemonade.

Muddle four or five blackberries in the bottom of your glass and substitute blackberry puree for the strawberry puree.

Peach and blackberry are an especially good combination.

Blueberries and raspberries can also work.

You could even create a Country Berry Picnic using strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries together.

Make It Less Sweet

One advantage of making your own mocktails is having complete control over the ingredients.

If you’re trying to reduce sugar, start with unsweetened iced tea.

Use sparkling water instead of soda.

Choose lemonade with less added sugar or make your own using fresh lemon juice, water, and your preferred sweetener.

You can also reduce the amount of peach nectar and rely more heavily on fresh fruit.

The drink doesn’t have to be extremely sweet to taste good.

In fact, a little tartness from the lemon and strawberries makes it even more refreshing on a warm afternoon.

What to Serve With a Country Picnic Mocktail

This drink practically begs to be served with picnic food.

Try it alongside fried or grilled chicken, sandwiches, burgers, barbecue, pasta salad, potato salad, fresh watermelon, corn on the cob, deviled eggs, fruit salad, or homemade biscuits.

For dessert, keep things simple.

Strawberry shortcake would be fantastic.

So would peach cobbler, lemon bars, berry pie, or homemade cookies.

Because the mocktail already contains several fruit flavors, it pairs particularly well with classic summer foods rather than extremely rich dishes.

A Drink for Everyone at the Table

One of the best things about a good mocktail is its versatility.

You can serve it at occasions where people of different ages and lifestyles are gathering.

There is no need for alcohol to make a drink interesting.

That is something I enjoy about creating Mocktail of the Day recipes.

Sometimes people think an alcohol-free drink means choosing between water, soda, or plain lemonade.

It doesn’t.

With a few ingredients and a little creativity, you can make something that feels every bit as special as a traditional cocktail.

The Country Picnic is a perfect example.

It has multiple layers of flavor, fresh ingredients, an attractive presentation, and plenty of opportunities for customization.

Sometimes Simple Moments Are the Best Ones

There is another reason I like the idea behind today’s drink.

A country picnic represents something we sometimes forget in a busy world:

Life doesn’t always have to be complicated to be meaningful.

Sometimes happiness is sitting outside on a beautiful afternoon.

Sometimes it is sharing food with people you care about.

Sometimes it is listening to music while the sun begins to set.

Sometimes it is laughing about something completely ridiculous.

And sometimes it is simply drinking something cold while enjoying a few peaceful minutes away from everything demanding your attention.

Those moments might seem small while they’re happening.

Later, they can become some of the memories we treasure most.

You don’t necessarily need a vacation, expensive restaurant, or elaborate event to create a good memory.

Pack some food.

Grab a blanket.

Find a shady spot.

Put the phones away for a little while.

Pour everyone a Country Picnic Mocktail.

Then enjoy being exactly where you are.

Mocktail of the Day: Country Picnic

The Country Picnic Mocktail combines some of the most familiar flavors of summertime—lemonade, iced tea, peaches, and strawberries—and turns them into one refreshing drink.

It’s colorful enough for a celebration but simple enough to make on an ordinary afternoon.

Make one for yourself after a long day.

Prepare a pitcher for your next barbecue.

Pack the ingredients for a picnic.

Or sit outside on the porch and enjoy one while watching the evening roll in.

You don’t have to travel very far to enjoy a little country escape.

Sometimes all you need is a cold glass, fresh fruit, sunshine, and a few quiet minutes to appreciate the simple things.

Would you make your Country Picnic with strawberry and peach, or what fruit combination would you add to make it your own?
